In short: NSW BESS4 is a NSW Government program that gives an incentive for business batteries sized from just over 20 kWh up to 200 kWh at sites in NSW. The incentive comes from Peak Reduction Certificates your battery generates, and it has applied to installs since 1 September 2026.[1] UEH serves businesses Australia-wide: we work out the right battery size, check which programs apply to your site and handle the install from start to finish.
Updated 12 October 2026. For information only, see the disclaimer.
New solar is also part of the rule: at least a quarter of the battery’s usable capacity. If the battery goes in no later than 90 days after the new solar, the higher incentive rate applies. [1]
A guide only. Final eligibility is confirmed for each project. See the disclaimer.
Your bills and interval data tell us when you use power and how big the battery should be.
Once installed, the battery earns Peak Reduction Certificates for the load it can shift off the NSW summer evening peak. [1]
How the incentive reaches you depends on your proposal. The amount depends on battery size, inverter, network area and solar.
Three NSW Government battery programs for sites in NSW, split by the type of building and the size of the battery. [1]
A shared battery for a NSW block of four or more homes, 20 to 200 kWh. Only 5 kWh per home counts toward the incentive, and it has to sit outdoors. [1]
NSW shops, offices, workshops, farms and light industry installing 20 to 200 kWh. One claim per site, with a $5,000 minimum customer payment. [1]
NSW systems above 200 kWh and up to 30 MWh. Only the first 10 MWh counts toward the incentive. Batteries must pass UL9540A fire testing. [1]
We design, approve, build and commission commercial and utility-scale solar and storage, from commercial batteries to utility-scale battery farms.
24/7 monitoring, demand charge control and the option to earn more through the UEH VPP.
We design and deliver commercial and industrial battery systems across Australia, directly or with local partners. For NSW sites we help with the NSW BESS programs, and elsewhere we look at the support available in your state.
Program details on this page are summarised in our own words from the official NSW Government rule. Please refer to it for the full requirements.
